As an experienced Asylum Chapel wedding photographer, I love documenting weddings in some of London’s most characterful ceremony spaces – and Asylum Chapel in Peckham is undoubtedly one of the city’s most atmospheric venues.

Laura and Kendall’s day was particularly special. Set across two London venues: Asylum Chapel in Peckham and Singer Tavern in the City of London, their wedding was the perfect mix of thoughtful design, relaxed energy, and effortlessly stylish London atmosphere.

As a London wedding photographer, I have photographed weddings in many of the city’s most iconic venues, so it was a real pleasure to work somewhere new to my portfolio. Singer Tavern brought a relaxed elegance to the day: a modern, light-filled reception space with a cool basement bar. It is tucked away in the heart of the City near Old Street and Shoreditch stations.

From the very beginning, they had a clear vision for their day and wedding photography: something modern yet timeless, natural yet editorial. The result was a beautifully cohesive day that translated into a set of nostalgic, film images full of softness, fun and genuine connection.

Why They Chose Asylum Chapel

Their connection to Asylum Chapel is what makes this wedding truly meaningful:

“Kendall and I lived in East London for over 12 years… when we moved to South London, our first flat was a 2-minute walk from Asylum Road.”

“We discovered a chapel with a beautifully distressed interior, amazing natural light through stained glass windows, and a picture-perfect altar. We kept it in our back pocket in the hope that one day we could get married there.”

Two years later, that vision became reality.

An Intimate Ceremony at Asylum Chapel

”Our ceremony was very intimate, although we had many more attendees than we originally planned- it still had that feeling that every single guest was meant to be there, and each made their own special addition to the love we felt on the day.

We had a celebrant named Patricia who added a lovely theatrical feel to the story of us, while involving our guests in a comical take on the memories of our lives together.

A very close friend of ours did a reading that really resonated with both of us, followed by our vows, which were very special. We had our own custom vow books made, and we exchanged them in front of all of our guests for the first time. A very touching and deeply personal moment that we will always cherish.”

Fashion-Led, Effortlessly Cool Styling

Laura and Kendall brought a strong sense of personal style to their wedding. No surprise as both work in fashion and photography sectors!

Kendall always knew he wanted to wear a tux (and his entourage had matching black tuxes too!), while Laura’s dress journey evolved unexpectedly:

“While visiting my parents, we popped into the local wedding dress shop. I went in with zero expectations… the last dress I tried on, I immediately knew it was the one – but it was full lace which felt too fussy.”

“We decided to have it custom made in satin… it felt like a risk given it is an Australian brand, but when I saw it 12 months later, I knew I’d made the right choice.”

The bridesmaids wore pastel colour silky dresses and the look was completed with gorgeous textured flowers in similar colours of pinks and light yellows. I especially loved the peonies!

The couple stayed and got ready at a modern London hotel – 100 Shoreditch – with lots of natural light and stylish interiors – it was quite a match to the overall vibe. While I captured Laura’s morning, my associate met with the boys for their early morning drink.
