Margaux and Louis – engagement session in Coal Drops Yard in King’s Cross.

A few weeks ago I would never imagine this engagement photography in Coal Drops Yard would be my last shoot for the next few weeks or longer. I am so happy we made to do this engagement session – the streets of London were already eerily empty, many people worked from home, lots of shops in Coal Drops Yard were closed. A few days after this session we were told to stay home. This is the new world of living in times of coronavirus pandemic. I do have a back log of sessions and weddings to post but I am starting from this London engagement photography to show that even in times of winter gloom couple sessions can be fun and full of colour. Especially for those that had to postpone their engagement or wedding photography to winter or spring.

Margaux and Louis chose Granary Square and Coal Drops Yard area for their photo session. I like it there – normally it is swarming with people given its proximity to King’s Cross and St Martin’s University. That day, mid March, the area was quiet. It was a cold and cloudy day so the couple decide to wear bright colours that really made me smile when I met them (have you noticed I am a big fan of mustard yellow?). I do not influence my clients’ wardrobe choices for engagement photography, though when asked I ask not to wear logo tops or crazy patterns that might clash with busy London cityscapes. It was a nice surprise to see that they took the initiative and thought about clothes to wear.

I always aim to create a relaxed atmosphere for the engagement photography sessions – we start from walking and chatting and then get to closer poses. Nothing the couples are not comfortable with – hugs, kisses or high fives are cool! I use London scenery as a feature in my engagement photos – this way the focus shifts from the couple to the surrounding and back. Have a look at these relaxed engagement photos in fairy light filled Coal Drops Yard.

I hope this session will brighten your day.
