Anika and Jack had a beautiful winter wedding at Islington Town Hall, with a ceremony at the elegant Richmond Room. The reception took place at the cosy Londesborough in North London.
I captured their special day through documentary-style photography, using a mix of 35mm film photography and digital techniques to tell the story of Anika and Jack’s London wedding in a natural, organic way, bringing the nostalgia of analogue photography to life. Have a look at my selection of London film wedding photography below:
This wedding was the first part of Anika and Jack’s wedding journey – an intimate London wedding for family and close friends :
”We knew we wanted to have a small, intimate wedding in London and we also didn’t want to get married in a Church because we came from different religious backgrounds. Therefore, we chose to get married in Islington Town Hall, being a nice venue and Islington is a place where we live and have shared many memories. The Londesborough is one of our favourite local watering holes and we wanted to have a celebration after our Town Hall wedding that was fun, relaxed and quirky!”
”For the ceremony, we chose music that was special to us (Beethoven, Mozart, Camille Saint-Saens and Handel). The readings reflected our different cultures; we chose a reading by Rabindranath Tagore, a Bengali poet and nobel prize winner, as that is originally where I am from. We also chose readings from English poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning because she writes beautifully and also spent a lot of time in Italy (where Anika is from).”
After the ceremony, we had a few minutes for portraits inside Islington Town Hall before exiting for the confetti. As it was very dark at this time of the year, I used both: available light from fairy lights decorating the street trees, and direct flash for that relaxed editorial look.
We then hopped on a London Bus, complete with a vintage ticket master. At the Londesborough, we enjoyed a drink reception before moving on to speeches and a delicious three-course dinner.
The evening ended with a lively party.
I loved the couple’s outfits!
“I wanted something elegant and simple, so I chose a satin dress with a long train, designed by Madi Lane, an Australian designer, known for her simple yet classy designs. I loved how the satin went with the red and burgundy hues of the bridal bouquet which made it feel wintery! I chose Manolos because they add a bit of sparkle to every occasion, and I chose a clutch bag from Rodo, a small boutique in Florence as it is one of our favourite places ever and they make beautiful bags. Jack chose a suit from Hawes & Curtis and a gold tie from Turnbull and Asser, and he ordered bespoke shoes from Crockett & Jones.”
This wedding perfectly encapsulated the essence of city chic and relaxed luxe and I cannot wait for their second, bigger wedding in Rome soon. I was so excited to get this wonderful testimonial from the London leg:
”We were incredibly lucky to have you on our day! You captured the moments beautifully and we felt like we had known you for a long time. You offered invaluable guidance and support to both me, Jack and our family members in helping guide us through the day, the various little hurdles and challenges, and helped everyone feel at ease during the photos. We cannot thank you enough! We really felt like you were part of our family for the day. The photos are stunning. We have shared these with others who have also commented on how gorgeous they are; they look very natural but capture the essence of our feelings and emotions perfectly. Thank you once again for being there for us!”
