Courtney + James
What a fabulous start to my full wedding season this year with a relaxed wedding photography for this couple. James and Courtney’s wedding at The Old Marylebone Town Hall and non traditional reception at Ask for Janice could not be any better. Gorgeous summer weather surprised us on the Easter Saturday.
The couple opted for a chilled party-like feminist wedding, abandoning most wedding traditions. Courtney and James were staying together the night before at the Curtain Hotel in Shoreditch, but got ready separately, allowing for an impromptu first look on a nearby street. After that, we ventured out on London streets for some cool and fun wedding photography. We then popped to the Allsop Arms pub for a cheeky drink before the ceremony at the Old Marylebone Town Hall. Courtney and James walked into the room together, which was super cool too!
We wanted to have our wedding in central London because that is where most of our relationship flourished, and we felt most at home. For our ceremony venue, we chose the Old Marylebone Town Hall. We wanted our reception to be super relaxed, so we chose Ask For Janice. This is our favourite gin bar in London, and we were delighted when we discovered they took bookings.
Their wedding timeline was super relaxed so it gave us time to hop on a tube and get some cool wedding photography at the Barbican area. That harsh light was great to play with, and I am super pleased to show you these photos below.
As there was no sit down dinner, everybody simply mingled in and outside of Ask for Janice basking in warm sunshine that day. What a perfect, fun and relaxed wedding!
We met in the way all modern love stories do, over Tinder. We got engaged at the end of 2017 whilst on an island in Cambodia, which was as lovely as it sounds. Funnily, we got married in London, but in between we decided to move to Sydney, which meant we had to travel back across the world to get married.
I knew that I didn’t want a traditional wedding dress and found the idea of going to a ‘bridal shop’ off putting. I discovered Fame and Partners online, a sustainable fashion website that custom makes all their items. They have a section of the website where you can design your own dress, so I did that. My dress was an A-line midi dress that had a slit in the side of it. I loved how comfortable I felt in the dress and because it was short and flowy, it was so easy to dance and move around in. Whereas I (James) left my outfit entirely to the last minute, I didn’t really care what I was wearing I was just excited to be getting married.
We chose to go with Grace and Thorn’s Ready To Wear range because we wanted simple, no-fuss and affordable flowers to match the vibe of our casual wedding. I loved that you could see exactly what you were going to get, and the whole process was completely transparent, unlike many other wedding flower companies. We went with a mixture of Wild Side jars and a New Romantic bouquet and buttonholes. The arrangements and decorative flowers were sent straight to the reception venue, while we picked up my bouquet and buttonholes from their studio directly as it was walking distance from our hotel.
We decided to book Jo after finding her work on Instagram, as a photographer myself, picking a photographer was one of the most important parts of planning the whole day. We both loved her style and after meeting her we realised she would be perfect to document our day. All our friends and family loved her, and we have all been blown away by the photos.
