Town Hall Hotel in East London wedding photography
Winter indoor wedding with simple Cherry Williams wedding dress and dark purple suit
Julie + Reece
I am excited to share this Scandi inspired, candle lit, simple, elegant yet very relaxed wedding at Town Hall Hotel with you. This listed art deco building, once a Town Hall, has been modernised and developed into a stunning hotel in the centre of East London. It offers unique interiors for smaller weddings and it worked perfectly for Julie and Reece’s plans.
What made you choose your Town Hall Hotel as your wedding venue?
”We knew we wanted to get married in London and wanted something quite unique, but where we could have the ceremony and reception all in one venue. We viewed Town Hall Hotel in East London and immediately we knew it was the one. The decor inside is beautiful and it was convenient for everyone. We also knew we could have amazing photos taken inside and given that we decided to get married in December we knew that was important!”
And how right the couple was – the day of their wedding was a mix of cold, rain and wind conditions so all family and couple wedding photography was taken inside too. With its gorgeous staircase and lovely interiors there were plenty of spots for photos indeed. Read more about this wedding and Julie and Reece love story below the photos.
Our love story
We met in 2007 whilst out in London after discovering we had lots in common including a love of the city! We finally managed to get our own place in beautiful Greenwich, our favourite place in London, and in 2017 we got engaged. Reece planned the loveliest surprise and proposed at the top of the lighthouse in Trinity Buoy Wharf which he had booked for us to have privately. Neither of us wanted to have a super long engagement and so we booked to get married just over a year later in December 2018.
We returned to Trinity Buoy Wharf and the Lighthouse for our engagement photo shoot with Joasis Photography.

Wedding dress shopping does not have to be stressful – our outfits and that purple suit
I struggled to find a wedding dress I loved and didn’t really enjoy the usual wedding dress shops, some were very pressured. I found Cherry Williams online and after visiting her studio and seeing how relaxed and easy the process could be, as well as me being able to adapt the designs to how i wanted, I knew I wanted her to make my dress. She adapted the back of one of her designs and it turned out even better than I could have hoped for. it was simple but beautifully made and the different fabrics made it very unique. As Reece is so tall we knew it would be difficult finding a suit that fitted him perfectly. After trying a range on in different stores, and even looking into a bespoke suit, we finally found the perfect suit in Ted Baker. They could adjust the length and the final result was exactly what he wanted. The main thing we loved was the colour as it seemed impossible to find a dark purple suit anywhere!
Scandi warm winter wedding vibes
We both love the simple scandi style and knew we didn’t wanted anything too over the top or brightly coloured, and didn’t want anything too themed. We also both wanted lots of lights and candles to make it feel cosy and warm as it was the middle of winter.
Our florist Studio Smudge did the most amazing job. We only had one short meeting but she immediately understood what we wanted- lots of bottles, vases, candles and foliage. Everyone gasped when they walked into the reception room and saw the table with all the candles lit and the beautiful floral arrangements. It was just perfect.
Short ceremony with pieces of music instead of readings
We wanted to keep our ceremony short. We picked 4 pieces of music that conveyed our feelings and felt this was more suited to us than readings and so played this at various points in the ceremony. It was lovely.
The importance of good music
Don’t Delete the Kisses by Wolf Alice. Music is very important to us both and we found it hard to pick one song. We both love the band and it just felt really appropriate with the lyrics without being too soppy or over the top.
We had a DJ for the evening. We knew there were certain songs we really wanted to be played, and definitely did not want the usual cheesy DJ! We picked The Best Men as they were predominantly Indie based but spent time going through all the bands we liked and we were really happy with the music on the night.
Our favourite part of the day
Straight after the ceremony we were able to go and sit together and have a glass of bubbly on our own before the drinks reception. It was just a lovely thing to be able do as it was our first moment alone as husband and wife and one we will always remember. That and walking down the stairs to all our guests afterwards and seeing all the smiling faces and cheering.
And a few words of advice for couples planning their marriage and wedding day
Don’t get stressed about the small things, they are not important. There will always be things that do not quite go to plan and hiccups, but they do not matter. That and always go with what you and your partner want. Do not let other people force their opinions on what your wedding should be. It is your day.
We had such a pleasure photographing this Town Hall Hotel wedding and working with Julie and Reece. It was wonderful to receive this lovely feedback on wedding photography by our associates Aggie and Raf:
Raf and Aggie just did the most amazing job. We initially booked Joasis as looking at their website we knew it was exactly what we wanted, nothing too posed or forced, just capturing some lovely natural moments of the day. They arrived super early and found lots of beautiful places for shots and the whole day ran seamlessly. They were both super laid back and did not pressurise us to keep going off for photos, they let us advise when was best and we really appreciated that. The guests all commented on what a great job they did and have been blown away by the final photos.
