MARYLEBONE TOWN HALL Wedding guide

Wedding Photography at THE ICONIC OLD MARYLEBONE TOWN HALL IN LONDON

Set just moments from Regent’s Park, this historic London registry office has been hosting weddings for over a century, welcoming more than 125,000 couples through its doors - from intimate elopements to larger city celebrations.

As an Old Marylebone Town Hall wedding photographer, I’ve photographed weddings across every room in the building. It’s one of London venues I’ve come to know instinctively. I know when the light is at its best, how each room behaves, and how to make the most of even a few minutes - without ever making things feel staged or hurried. The iconic staircase and colonnade are my favourite locations for nostalgic film wedding photography offering stunning architecture, soft light and a bit of shelter against temperamental British weather.

Old Marylebone Town Hall is one of the most popular registry offices to get married in London,
A favourite for modern romantics. Elegant ceremony rooms from intimate to the spacious Westminster Room, stunning columns, and those iconic steps make this a dream location. This Grade II listed building is located in the heart of Marylebone, surrounded by quintessential London streets, mews and historic architecture, perfect for post ceremony photos.

Whether you’re coming here for a simple marriage ceremony before heading to lunch, or building a full day around it, it is a place to guarantee a very “London” vibe to your wedding. It is a dog friendly venue too!

capacity; 2 to 100 guests

My 2025/26 collections look a bit like this. Each collection provides a saving, but you’re welcome to book my standard Gretna Green package and add extras later if needed. If you require something not listed here, I can create a bespoke collection tailored to your needs, whether for an elopement, a multi-day shoot, or a wedding weekend.

If you’re unsure which space might suit you best, I’m always happy to share thoughts based on how you want your photos (and your experience) to feel.

It is the largest ceremony space within Old Marylebone Town Hall, and it has a very different feel to the smaller rooms.

It’s a little more traditional in atmosphere, with rich wood panelling, high ceilings, and a wide seating plan suitable for larger celebrations. At full capacity, it can host around 100 guests, which makes it one of the few spaces in central London where you can have a registry office ceremony that still feels expansive. There is a grand piano in one corner and a space for a string trio on the other side, should you wish to have live music.

THE WESTMINSTER ROOM

From a photography perspective, the darker tones and directional spot of natural light on the couple create cinematic and quite special atmosphere. It requires a slightly different approach than the lighter rooms (a bit of flash is helpful at times), but that’s part of what makes it so interesting.

The Mayfair and Knightsbridge rooms at Old Marylebone Town Hall are very similar in size and feel, each accommodating around 30 guests.

Both offer modern, intimate setting that works beautifully for smaller weddings. The Mayfair Room features soft grey-beige tones while the Knightsbridge Room is defined by its bold blue walls.  From photography perspective, the light and neutral walls of Mayfair Room are more pleasant for skin tones.

The Pimlico and Soho rooms at Old Marylebone Town Hall are intimate, characterful spaces, both designed for smaller ceremonies. The Pimlico Room is defined by its muted beige tones, parquet flooring, and wrap-around seating, with velvet furnishings adding a sense of quiet luxury. The Soho Room has a similar relaxed feel, with its plush blue velvet sofa, original floorboards, and soft sage interiors, all brought together with modernist lighting.

From a photographic perspective, both rooms offer lighter interiors and warmth from the chandeliers. It is a little trickier to photograph guests sitting on the sofa facing the couple in the Soho Room.

Tucked alongside the larger ceremony spaces at Old Marylebone Town Hall, the Marylebone and Paddington rooms are designed for the smallest, most intimate weddings. The Paddington Room hosts up to around eight guests, while the Marylebone Room allows for slightly more, usually up to twelve, making both ideal for elopements or ceremonies with just your closest people.

Both rooms have a more traditional feel, with walnut wood panelling and carved fireplaces creating a darker, more intimate atmosphere. From a photographic perspective, they’re beautifully simple, but there is less natural light and more warmer ambient light.  The Paddington Room has very informal seating arrangement for modern city elopements.

My Approach to Photographing Weddings at Marylebone Town Hall

With over 12 years of experience photographing weddings across London - and many at Old Marylebone Town Hall itself - my approach is intuitive, efficient, and thoughtfully tailored to each couple.

Whether you’re planning an intimate elopement with time to wander the streets of London for portraits, or a larger celebration with a carefully structured schedule, I adapt seamlessly - ensuring you get the most from the experience without ever feeling rushed or overwhelmed.

I work primarily in a documentary way, allowing your ceremony and the moments around it to unfold naturally, while remaining discreet and unobtrusive. When it comes to portraits, you will receive just enough gentle direction to create something refined and editorial, without ever making you feel staged or taken away from your day.

Most importantly, I work closely with you to shape a schedule and a list of group shots that reflects the vision you have - bringing both experience and creativity to ensure the photography feels effortless, and everything flows naturally.

Marylebone Town Hall moves quickly, often with multiple weddings taking place at once, and knowing how to work within that rhythm makes all the difference. I understand the light in each room, the pace of the schedule, and how to create beautiful, thoughtful images in just a few minutes - whether inside the building or just outside on the steps and surrounding streets.

Below, you’ll find examples of real weddings to give you a sense of how this looks in practice.

If you’re planning your wedding at Old Marylebone Town Hall and this way of working resonates, I’d love to hear more about your plans.

Steve and I were very impressed with Jo's portfolio. Her modern vibe and relaxed style was exactly the look and feel we both wanted from a photographer to capture our wedding day. Jo is friendly and personable and took time to get to know us and our guests. She made us feel instantly at ease, so much so that neither of us remember her taking our photographs or capturing our day. However, the results are truly amazing and captured our day in such a beautiful and happy way.

We are so impressed.

Thank you.
